Samuel P. Hoffer, 84, of Greensburg, died Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2016, in UPMC East. He was born March 17, 1931, in Greensburg, a son of the late Samuel B. and Laura R. Campbell Hoffer. Sam was a retired pipe chipper for the former Hempfield Founderies, Greensburg, and a veteran of the Army, having served during the Korean War. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Christina B. Stevenson Hoffer, on July 22, 2015; a daughter, Karina Lynne Snyder; and three sisters, Marie Hoffer, Regina Bizub and Rita Lawton. He is survived by his six children, Paul M. Snyder and wife, Kathleen, of Hinesville, Ga., Georgina Blanchette and husband, Al, of Bristol, Conn., David A. Snyder and wife, Sandy, of Greensburg, Mark A. Snyder, of Greensburg, Randy L. Snyder, of Latrobe, and Samuel B. Hoffer, of Greensburg; nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; a sister, Eleanor Ann Hisker and husband, Donald, of Greensburg; a sister-in-law, Margaret Stauffer, of Greensburg; a brother-in-law, George Stevenson, of California; and several nieces and nephews.
There will be no public viewing. A committal service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in the Greensburg Catholic Cemetery Mausoleum. Inurnment will follow.
