After 87 years of life, Rose “Sam” Vrable went home to be with her God on Wednesday, August 23, 2017. Sam was born on August 7, 1930 in Smock, PA, the fourth of five children born to the late John and Mary Frances (Spernock) Permuka. Sam leaves to love and cherish her memory her husband John and her beloved children, Dennis Wilkins and his wife Sharon of Johnstown, PA, Douglas Wilkins and his wife Connie of North Carolina, and Duane Wilkins and his wife Cindy of Mt. Pleasant, PA. She is also survived by her brother John Permuka and his wife Joan of Mt. Pleasant, PA, and her sister Alberta Mates of Mt. Pleasant, PA. Sam was grandmother to eighteen grandchildren and a great-grandmother to five children. Following the end of her first marriage, Sam embarked upon a successful career as a fashion consultant, which led her to various cities throughout the United States, including Atlanta and Los Angeles. In the course of this work she dealt with many of the so-called “rich and famous” people, developing friendships which continue to the present time. She returned to Greensburg, PA in the late 1980’s where she met her husband to be, John. They married, residing in Clarksburg, WV, until John’s retirement, after which they moved to Sun City West, AZ. She and John returned to the Greensburg PA area in 2015 where they have resided since.
