Marjorie 'Polly' (Comstock) Hunsberger, of Greensburg, passed peacefully on November 2, 2024 at the age of 88 following a brief illness. She was born July 28, 1936, a daughter of the late Chester and Marian Cutting Comstock. Polly was born in New York City and grew up in Hastings on the Hudson, NY. She attended the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY where she met her beloved husband of 61 years and completed her Bachelors and Master's in Music Education in 1958 and 1960 respectively. After college she moved back to New York City and performed with various symphonies and on Broadway until her marriage in 1962 and relocation to Rochester at which time she became first Chair of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra. Polly and Don lived in Pittsford, NY for over 40 years. Polly performed and travelled with the RPO for 50 years. While she loved performing, Polly found her true calling in teaching cello through the Continued Education Department at Eastman. She enhanced numerous lives with her devoted teaching for more than 40 years. Polly loved to travel with Don, collect interesting rocks and attend estate sales for 'bargains'. She spent her summers in Chatham, MA for 50+ years. Both she and Don were blessed to have many friends, especially the 'Gourmet Group' that met monthly for decades. After Don's death in November 2023, Polly moved to St. Anne Home in Greensburg, PA. In addition to her parents Polly was predeceased by her husband Donald Hunsberger. Polly is survived by her daughters Susan (Michael) Tain of Greensburg, PA and Laura (Edward Pekarek) Hunsberger of Wellsville, NY, granddaughters Emily and Katherine Tain, brother Chester 'Chip' (Frances) Comstock, sister-in-law Jean Hillegass, nieces and nephews, Kristen (Troy West) Comstock and Timothy (Roxanne) Comstock, Joan (Robert) Buck, and Jeffrey (Lisa) Hillegass as well as great nieces and nephews. Polly will be inurned with Don at White Haven Memorial Park in Pittsford, NY. Memorial donations in Polly’s memory may be made to the Eastman School of Music, Donald and Polly Hunsberger Endowed Conducting Scholarship and/or the Third Presbyterian Church Hunsberger Choral Scholars Fund.
