Joseph A. DeFail , 93, of Greensburg, died Wednesday, July 26, 2017, in the St. Anne Home, with his loving family by his side. He was born June 22, 1924, in Salemville, a son of the late Anthony and Philomena Speal DeFail. Retired from Latrobe Steel, Joseph served as the vice president of the Steelworkers Union Local no. 1537 for 20 years. He was a member of Our Lady of Grace Church and served his country on the USS Cowpens CVL25 with the Navy during World War II. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, James, Sam, Dan and Tom DeFail; and three sisters, Edith Monstrola, Frances Droske and Elizabeth Gretz. He is survived by his devoted wife of 67 years, Carmella M. Panichella DeFail; two daughters, Susan Karas (Mark), of Jeannette and Joanne Cooper (Michael), of Latrobe; five grandchildren, Sammi Jo Ivey (Derek), Zachary Karas (Erica), Ashley Brounce (Cody), Suzanne Beckner (Jordan) and Kelly Cooper; four great-grandchildren, Houston and Vivian Ivey and Rylan and Raleigh Beckner; and numerous nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate the life of Joseph from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 11 a.m. until noon, the time of services, on Monday, in the CLEMENT L.
