John David Weyand --beloved husband and father--died on October 16, 2021 in Greensburg, Pennsylvania. He was 82. John was born in the small farming town of Faulkton, South Dakota to Oscar and Clarice Weyand, their fourth child. He graduated from Faulkton High School, class of 1957, where he was fondly known as “The Duke” and lettered in both football and basketball. He attended the South Dakota School of Mines where he earned an undergraduate degree in geology, and later earned MS and PhD degrees in ceramic engineering from the University of Missouri at Rolla. He wed Charlene Ninnemann of Platte, South Dakota in 1963, and they are the parents of five boys: Nathan (Lisa) Weyand of Athens, Ohio; Ethan (Sanni) Weyand of Turku, Finland; Justin (Vicky) of Buxton, Maine; Austin (Kassie) Weyand of Honeyville, Utah; and Larkin (Marianne) Weyand of Pleasant Grove, Utah. John is survived by two brothers, Roger Weyand of Georgetown,Texas, and Richard “Dick” Weyand of Faulkton; his wife of nearly 58 years, Charlene; their five sons; 17 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild on the way. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Clarice, and 2 siblings: Mary Stuebner and Marvin Weyand. There will be no public viewing. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday October 23rd at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 156 Twin Run Road, Greensburg, PA 15601. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes to encourage donations to the Missouri University of Science and Technology to support students pursuing degrees in ceramic engineering. Donations can be sent to the Materials Science and Engineering Department, Missouri University of Science and Technology, 1400 N. Bishop, Rolla, MO 65409-0340.
