Joan Liprando

Joan M. (Place) Liprando , 85, of Greensburg, passed away peacefully at home Thursday, March 9, 2017, after an extended battle with Alzheimer's disease. She was born Oct. 18, 1931, in Wilkinsburg, the daughter of the late W. Porter Place and Leona Gustafson Place. Joan attended Penn Hills High School and graduated from Purdue University. Upon her college graduation in 1953, she married the indisputable love of her life, Greg, who she had met while working a summer job at her father's electronics company, Femco. Joan was an avid gardener, a talented floral arranger and a voracious reader. In addition to lovingly raising her family, she worked tirelessly in the many businesses that she and her husband bought and sold over their 51 years of marriage. While Joan loved traveling the world with her husband, she was happiest being at home, particularly the last 33 years in Greensburg on the 10th hole of the Valley Green Golf Club. There, she happily entertained her children and grandchildren for many annual Easter egg hunts and day after Christmas parties that will always provide fond memories for her family. In addition to her parents, her husband preceded her in death in the spring of 2004. Greg and Joan had four children, Larry (Tammy), Tom, Ellen Urda (John) and Linda Rusnock  (Dave); 12 grandchildren, Lindsay, Greg, Andy and Luke, Jessica and Alan (Kristen) Liprando, Emily Urda Radke (Chris), J. Eric Urda and Coleman (Natalie), Brett (Nina), Dustin and Alex Rusnock; two great-grandchildren, Rowan and Shiloh. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 14, 2017, in Armbrust Wesleyan Church, 7790 PA-819, Armbrust, PA 15616, 724-925-9110. Relatives and friends will be received one hour prior to the service at the church. A reception will follow. Interment will be private in Twin Valley Memorial Park, Delmont.
