Joan A. “Benji” (McDonough) Benjamin, 87, of South Greensburg, died Saturday, January 11, 2025, in the Westmoreland Hospital. She was born February 10, 1937, in Greensburg, a daughter of the late John J. and Helen Ann Coletti McDonough. “Benji” was a member of St. Bruno Church and their Rosary Altar Society. She was also an active member of WANA, the Greensburg Garden Club and the Mercy School of Nursing Alumni Association. She retired from the former Westmoreland Hospital in 1992 with over thirty years of service, primarily on 2D, which was the unit that specialized in med/surg and peritoneal dialysis. She was an “Angel on Earth”, her life revolved around helping her family and others with her caring and selfless acts of kindness and support. She was an excellent Mom and Gaga and her family was her greatest pride and joy. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Karla Marie Benjamin and brother, John 'Jack' McDonough. She is survived by the love of her life for sixty-four years, Herschel A. Benjamin; her children, Brian Benjamin (Jane) of Somerset and Lynn Lawrence (Kurt) of Greensburg; five grandchildren, Caitlin Ulicny (Michael), Christina Maroadi (Anthony), Katie “Benjamin” Cole (Matthew), Nicholas Benjamin (fiance Jess Fichner) and Connor Lawrence; three great grandchildren, Michael and Capri Ulicny and Leo Maroadi; three sisters, Donna Guskiewicz of Greensburg, Catherine Burlaga (Leonard) and Maureen Stansell (Donald) all of Maryland; brother, Dennis McDonough (Patricia) of Latrobe; sister in law, Diane McDonough of VA and numerous nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends of Benji will be received Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Clement L. Pantalone Funeral Home, Inc. 409 W. Pittsburgh Street, Greensburg, PA 15601, (724) 837-0020. The St. Bruno Rosary Altar Society will recite the Rosary Thursday at 3:45 p.m. in the funeral home and the Angels of Westmoreland Honor Guard will conduct a service Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in the funeral home. Prayers of transfer will be said in the funeral home Friday 9:15 a.m., followed by a funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. in the St. Bruno Church, South Greensburg. Entombment will follow in Greensburg Catholic Cemetery Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Bruno Rosary Altar Society, 1729 Poplar Street, South Greensburg, PA 15601.
