James Robert Kemsey, Sr.

James (Jim) Robert Kemsey, Sr., 93, of Greensburg, died on Sunday, March 3, 2024. He was born August 17, 1930, in Greensburg, a son of the late Joseph and Anna Yanosko Kemsey. Jim was preceded in death by his two brothers, Joseph and Charlie, sister Nancy and infant granddaughter Brooke Kepple Kemsey.  Jim was retired from Bell Telephone and served his country in the US Coast Guard. A lifelong resident of Greensburg, he was an avid tennis player, skier, and one of the original charter members of the Westmoreland Ski Club. He loved his time “in the mountains” and taking his wife dancing. He worked with his son Kevan after his retirement on bringing fixer-upper houses back to life. A jack of all trades, Jim hand-built the family home, that holds a lifetime of fond memories.  He is survived by his dear and devoted wife of 67 years, Dolores (Daversa) Kemsey; children, Marla Kemsey of Blacksburg, VA., James Jr. (Kayo) Kemsey of Bangkok, Thailand, Colin Kemsey of Hanover, PA. and Kevan (Shari) Kemsey of New Alexandria PA.; eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren.  Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate the life of Jim, Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m., in the Clement L. Pantalone Funeral Home, Inc. 409 W. Pittsburgh Street, Greensburg, PA 15601, (724) 837-0020.  A funeral service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the Pantalone Funeral Home, Inc.  Interment will follow in Greensburg Catholic Cemetery.  Jim’s family would like to recognize the amazing volunteers of Greensburg Volunteer Fire Department, Hose Company #8, that always assisted in his time of need.  His family would also like to recognize the wonderful work of Renee Sparks, and Jan Manley, who tirelessly dedicated themselves to his care in his final years.   In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hose Company #8 at 900 Highland Ave., Greensburg PA 15601.  Jim’s family has entrusted his care to the Pantalone Funeral Home Inc., Greensburg.  For online condolences / directions, visit us at pantalone.com.
