J. Daniel Barger, 70, of Youngwood passed away Monday in Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital.
He was born April 2, 1944, in Karns City, son of the late Melvin and Florence Snow Barger.
He was married for more than 51 years to his loving wife, Linda.
Together with his wife, Dan owned and operated two successful businesses in Greensburg. He opened B & B Alternator Service in 1971, which continued to serve the community for 30 years. During this time, he also opened Yesterday's Restaurant and Lounge, which remained in operation for 10 years. He worked for Advance Auto Parts in Greensburg and Youngwood, from where he retired in 2013.
Dan had a passion for automobiles and restoring classic cars. He and Linda also remodeled several homes together and enjoyed spending their free time landscaping and camping.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Lillian Hunter and JoAnne Bowser.
In addition to wife, Linda, he is survived by his brother, William Barger and wife, Norma, of Butler; his two sisters, Shirley Hornyak of Valencia, and Arlene Miller of Saxonburg; his three children, Daniel Barger and his wife, Debbie, of Greensburg, Ron Barger and his fiancee, Olivia Maurer, of Perkasie, and Bob Barger and his wife, Barb, of Blairsville; his nine grandchildren, Ken Gustafson and his fiancee, Ellen Newman, Tony Gustafson and his wife, Heather, and Holly Shaneyfelt and her husband, Allen, all of Greensburg, Michael Barger of Pittsburgh, Jillian, James, Jessica, and Jacob Barger of Blairsville, and Keira Maurer and baby of Perkasie; his four great-grandchildren, Addyson and Evan Gustafson and Kaleigh and Makenzy Shaneyfelt of Greensburg; his several nieces and nephews; and his faithful four-legged companion, Gizmo, all of whom will greatly miss his quick wit and smile.
Barger - There will be no public viewing for J. Daniel Barger, who passed away Monday, May 26, 2014. Private interment will be in Westmoreland County Memorial Park, Greensburg.
Dan's family has entrusted his care to CLEMENT L. PANTALONE FUNERAL HOME, 409 W. Pittsburgh St., Greensburg.
