GUY JOSEPH BELLANCA
(July 11, 1960 – January 15, 2024)
On January 15, 2024, Guy Joseph Bellanca of Dover PA, formerly of Annapolis MD and Greensburg PA, passed away unexpectedly and far too soon at the age of 63 while visiting family in Denver. To all who knew and loved him, Guy was unfailingly a gentle, kind, and considerate person. While soft spoken and often deferential to others in conversation, he had strong passions and enjoyed them to the fullest. He was an avid cyclist, a skier, an expert with firearms who enjoyed teaching others, and a consummate “Dog Dad.” And there was nothing quite like watching Guy revel in the retelling of a family story.
His professional life was spent as a Revenue Agent for the IRS, working in the Baltimore district. He said over the years how fortunate he was to meet and work with so many great people. That said, he was never shy about flying the “Terrible Towel” at work whenever his beloved Steelers took on the rival Ravens.
Guy encountered several health challenges near the end of his professional career that carried over into retirement when he moved from Annapolis to Dover. Despite these challenges, Guy never changed or wavered from who he was. He endured the difficulties with grace and patience. And he certainly did not slow down as he enjoyed traveling to Hawaii, the Caribbean, and Europe. He became a kidney transplant recipient a few years ago and was forever grateful for the gift. That gratitude led Guy to becoming a donor as his final gift to others.
Guy was pre-deceased by his father Dr. Guy L. Bellanca, his mother Loretta Bellanca, and his brother Mark Bellanca. And he would certainly want us to also mention his beloved dog BamBam. He is survived by a large and loving family who will miss him dearly: his life partner Kathleen Bell and her son Lee Piscitelli, his three sisters Felicia Verardi (Paul), Daniella Bellanca, and Christina Wheeler (Ken), his sister-in-law Janice Bellanca, his adoring nieces and nephews Kelsey Bellanca, Jacob Wheeler, Michelle Bellanca, Mia Bruce (Noah), Megan Bellanca, Natalie Verardi, Maria Young (Graham), Paul Verardi (Brianne), and Maggie Verardi, and his beloved dog Emmy. He will also be missed by too many aunts, uncles, and cousins to name, all of whom adored Guy. And finally, Guy cherished his many friends at the IRS, his fish and game club in Annapolis, and his cycling club in Dover.
There will be a gathering Tuesday, February 6, 2024, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Grace Church in Greensburg PA followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be held at 11 a.m. Family and friends are welcome to come and pray for him. The Mass will also be live streamed at https://www.twitch.tv/maxwellfilming Following the Mass, Guy will be laid to rest alongside his dear parents. Entombment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, mourners are asked to donate to one of Guy’s passions: Animal Friends (https://www.thinkingoutsidethecage.org/), Center for Organ Recovery & Education (https://core.org/community/show-your-support/contributions/), or Rails-to-Trails Conservancy (https://www.railstotrails.org/support-us/donor-info/). In addition, in his memory, mourners are also asked to consider becoming organ donors like Guy.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Clement L. Pantalone Funeral Home, Inc., 409 W Pittsburgh Street, Greensburg PA 15601. The family thanks Nat, Melanie, and their whole team for their extraordinary help and compassion throughout this difficult process.
