Edward L. Sorice, 98, of Greensburg, died Sunday, November 03, 2024, in Westmoreland Hospital. He was born May 22, 1926, in Crabtree, a son of the late Anthony L. and Rose Butz Sorice. Ed retired from Kennametal and in his younger years was deeply involved in his family's business, Sorice's Market, in Crabtree, where he contributed for thirty-eight years. He proudly graduated from Greensburg High School in 1945 and later attended Robert Morris College before starting his career. Although accepted into Notre Dame's School of Architecture, economic challenges in the 1940s meant that his parents could only afford to send their oldest son to college, following the traditions of their Italian heritage. Ed designed his own home and several offices and was also a licensed Real Estate Broker. He was an active member of the Latrobe Elks and a lifelong parishioner of St. Bartholomew Church in Crabtree, where he dedicated many years to supporting the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel festival. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Dr. S. A. Sorice; and sisters, Rosemarie Plundo and Eleanor Petrosky. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of seventy-two years, his high school sweetheart and best friend, Elvera L. Coccioletti Sorice; his son, Mark L. Sorice of Ligonier; sister, Gloria Potthoff of Denver, CO; twenty-five nieces and nephews (he was God Father to several); his close friends and coworkers, Stacey and Debbie Oyler; and his devoted 'grand dog', Scout. Relatives and friends of Edward will be received Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Clement L. Pantalone Funeral Home, Inc. 409 W. Pittsburgh Street, Greensburg, PA 15601, (724) 837-0020. Prayers of transfer will be said in the funeral home Thursday at 9:15 a.m., followed by a funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. in the St. Bartholomew Church, Crabtree with Fr. Justin Matro, OSB, celebrating. Interment will follow in Calvary Hill Cemetery, Crabtree. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Bartholomew Church PO Box A, Crabtree, PA 15624. Ed’s family has entrusted his care to the Pantalone Funeral Home Inc., Greensburg. For online condolences / directions, visit us at pantalone.com. Natale N. Pantalone, supervisor.
