Edith M. (Scarpo) Gendek , 98, of South Greensburg, died Saturday, Sept. 4, 2021. She was born Jan. 7, 1923, in Crabtree, a daughter of the late Ralph and JoAnn Crocetti Scarpo. Edith volunteered at Westmoreland Hospital for several years and enjoyed tending to her roses and cooking for her family. She was a member of St. Bruno Church, S. Greensburg. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore T. "Red" Gendek Sr.; son, Richard Gendek Sr.; granddaughter, Christine Hampton; four brothers, John, Arco, Ralph and Joseph Scarpo; and a sister, Ann Torockio. Edith is survived by her two sons, Theodore T. Gendek Jr. (Sandra) and Ralph Gendek (Doris), all of Greensburg; six grandchildren, Jacqueline Hemmenway, Gwendolyn Heckman (Kirk), Jennifer Skerbetz (William), Lisa Greenawalt (Joseph) and Michael and Richard Gendek, Jr.; 13 great-grandchildren, Owen and Sammy Heckman, Sarah and Riley Hampton, Emily, Abbie and William Skerbetz, Micah and Gabriella Hemmenway, Logan and Fallon Greenawalt and Vincent and Marissa Gendek; sister, Mary Rossi, of Greensburg; sister-in-law, Louise Scarpo, of Greensburg; and several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate the life of Edith from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2021, in the CLEMENT L. PANTALONE FUNERAL HOME INC., 409 W. Pittsburgh St, Gr.eensburg, PA 15601, (724) 837-0020. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday at a time to be announced in the St. Bartholomew Church, Crabtree, where she was baptized and married. Interment will follow in Greensburg Catholic Cemetery. Please be prepared to adhere to all current CDC guidelines.
