Carmella Defail

Carmella M. (Panichella) DeFai l, 91, of Greensburg, died Friday, Feb. 12, 2021. She was born July 7, 1929, in Greensburg, a daughter of the late Donato and Philomena "Fannie" Moffa Panichella. She was a 1947 graduate of Greensburg High School and was a member of Our Lady of Grace Church. Prior to working at Sears and Roebuck, Carmella was an operator for Bell Telephone. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph A. DeFail; three sisters, Mary Haines, Rose Boehme and Margaret Liston; and a brother, Dan Panichella. She is survived by her two daughters, Susan Karas (Mark), of Jeannette, and Joanne Cooper (Michael), of Latrobe; five grandchildren, Sammi Jo Cooper, Zachary Karas (Erica), Ashley Brounce (Cody), Suzanne Beckner (Jordan) and Kelly Cooper; five great-grandchildren, Houston and Vivian Ivey, Rylan and Raleigh Beckner and Kendall Karas; and a much anticipated baby boy in April; brother, Tom Panichella (Louise), of Latrobe; sister-in-law, Kathy Panichella, of Greensburg; and numerous nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate the life of Carmella from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the CLEMENT L. PANTALONE FUNERAL HOME INC., 409 W. Pittsburgh St., Greensburg, PA 15601, 724-837-0020. A private funeral service for the family will be held Wednesday in the funeral home, followed by interment in Westmoreland County Memorial Park, Greensburg. Keeping with CDC guidelines, those attending the viewing and funeral are required to wear face masks. Because of current social distancing restrictions, only 35 people will be permitted in the funeral home at one time.
