Bettina Louise Kirkland, 50, formerly of Greensburg, died Thursday, Oct. 8, 2015, in the University of Alabama Hospital in Birmingham. Bettina was the daughter of the late Robert and Betty Kirkland. In 1983, Bettina graduated from Greensburg Salem High School as senior class president and student council president. Basketball was her passion. She was the first Greensburg Salem girls' basketball player to score 1,000 points in her career. She went on to attend Slippery Rock College and the Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts, Ga., where she received her degree and graduated with honors. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Jeffrey Greene and Raymond Greene. She is survived by her sister, Wanda Kirkland Gadsden (husband Clarence) of Richmond, Va.; two sisters-in-law, Linda Greene and Elaine Greene; devoted friend, Brenda Slaton, of Atlanta, Ga.; as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate the life of Bettina from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, 2015, in the Greater Parkview Church, 103 Westminster Ave., Greensburg, 724-219-3280. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in the church. Interment will follow in Westmoreland County Memorial Park, Greensburg.
