Bernard H. Shaffer , 84, of Greensburg, died Thursday, August 09, 2018. He was born March 20, 1934, in Greensburg, a son of the late David T. Shaffer and Genevieve Hoebing Shaffer Thomas. Bernard was a 1952 graduate of St. Vincent Prep School and was retired from the PA State Job Service, where he worked as an employee relations reviewer. After his retirement from the state, he was a bus driver for Laidlaw, Inc. He enjoyed bowling, reading, watching sports and a good game of pinochle. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Genevieve Ernette Shaffer and a sister, Brenda Veitch. He is survived by his wife of forty-three years, Betty Jo Andrews Shaffer; six children, Brenda (Charles) Shiring of Lower Burrell, Genevieve (William) Chirdon of Hummelstown, James T. Shaffer of Fayetteville, NC, Michelle (Robert) Williams of Hampton, VA, Stacey (Michael) Patrick of Greensburg and Angela M. Shaffer of New Alexandria: grandchildren, Charles W. Shiring of Lower Burrell, Joseph R. (Mary) Chirdon of Harrisburg, Megan A. (Charles) Shaffer of Baltimore, MD, Carrie Jo Morris of Los Angeles, CA, Genevieve (Joshua) Burgess of Jacksonville, FL, Sean Williams, Robert Williams and Brett Williams, all of Hampton, VA, Shana (Nathan) Hoover, of Altoona, Thomas McLaughlin of San Francisco, CA, Dakota Everett and Brant Sullenberger, both of New Alexandria; twelve great grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews and his canine companion, Peanut. Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate the life of Bernard, Sunday from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. in the Clement L. Pantalone Funeral Home, Inc. 409 W. Pittsburgh Street, Greensburg, PA 15601, (724) 837-0020. Parting prayers will be held in the funeral home Monday at 9:30 a.m., followed by a funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. 2018 in the St. Paul Church. Interment will follow in Greensburg Catholic Cemetery, Greensburg, Pennsylvania.
